The project

Welcome to U Can Do I.T.

'Our mission is to bring blind, deaf and disabled people who need a computer, and can benefit from using it, into the computer age.'

Since the charity started, we have given training to more than 2,000 people and completed more than 22,000 individual tutorials.  This is a substantial achievement but it comes nowhere near reaching our estimate of 150,000 disabled people in the United Kingdom who could greatly benefit from the work being done by U Can Do I.T.

We provide a unique service.  Our  freelance tutors visit students in their own homes and teach them to use their own computers.  It is much easier and much cheaper for an able bodied person to reach the home of a disabled person than it is for that disabled person to travel by special transport into a college or day centre.  They may also need special expensive software or assistive devices.  It is essential for students to have computers in their own homes so that they can use them as and when they like and get the practice they need to retain the teaching they have received.

The computer, and in particular the internet,  has created a new world for us all, but for a disabled person it means a new life.  In a few years the internet will become an essential part of life.   Every disabled person should have a computer in their own homes and be taught how to use it.
