Week commencing 22nd September

The organisation took a stand at the Independent Living Exhibition at the Wembley, which proved to be very successful. Doreen Nicholas and Patricia Webb, from the Volunteers with a little help from Chris Garbett, manned the stand, where we had literally hundreds of visitors, ranging from Occupational Therapists, through to Care Teams from Social Service Departments. Useful contacts with other Charities were also established.

The week also saw a very useful meeting with two people from the Department of Work & Pensions - Andy Wilde and Sue Bamford - who work with a cross departmental division known as the Disadvantaged Groups Division, under the direction of Maria Eagle Minister for disabled people. A range of issues were discussed, and further action is anticipated for 2004, as there is currently a heavy workload for the DGD.
