Week Commencing 24th March

As part of our commitment to the ongoing training of our tutor team, this weekend saw tutor Tricia Webb leading a course to update tutors JAWS skills in the light of the program"s recent upgrade. JAWS software works by reading everything that appears on the screen whether it be menus or page content, and allows the user to navigate by means of keystrokes rather than a mouse. JAWS can be applied to many different types of programs and not just those used to access the internet. It"s a very effective way for blind and visually impaired people to use a computer, but with the update of the program to version 4.5 a lot of the keystrokes have been changed and this has been causing confusion.

Tricia says,
"Keeping the tutors up to date is very important, and this is one U Can Do I.T"s strengths. We had a very good day and finished off with a problem solving session which provided tutors with a much needed forum to discuss some of the issues they were encountering during lessons."

A busy week, Anthony Wigram attended a learning & Skills Council conference on the subject of collaboration with local education authorities and schools. This is an area we are keen to develop further, and so the conference provided a valuable opportunity to make new contacts and gain some useful insights into how we can take this forward.
