Week Commencing 24th February
A busy week, it has mostly been spent on the telephone speaking to each of the London boroughs regarding referrals of young disabled people to our course. This has been helped along by recent changes in law which has required us to upgrade our tutor vetting practices. Originally all tutors required Police Subject Access clearance but with the advent of the Criminal Records Bureau, which is run by the Home Office, we are not only clearing new tutors through this more comprehensive arrangement but are re-checking our existing tutors.Doreen Nicholas, our volunteer co-ordinator, has been busy sending out course evaluation forms to former students and is collating the replies, which are giving us an important insight into how people view the course. By and large the results have been very favourable. We"re grateful to Doreen, a former student herself, for undertaking this work.
