U Can Do I.T Charity Logo

Week Commencing 9th December

On Tuesday this week Chairman Anthony Wigram welcomed the Rt Hon Michael Portillo to the U Can Do I.T. offices. Mr Portillo, in whose constituency our office is based, came to our AGM in October and has kindly offered to help raise the profile of the charity. Later next year he will be hosting a reception on our behalf, and as soon as the details have been finalised we will be adding them to subsequent newsletters. Naturally very are extremely grateful to Mr Portillo for his support.

Behind the scenes the office is busier than ever, with both new students and new tutors. During the last few weeks we have been busy forging new contacts with a number of organisations concerned with supporting families of children with physical and sensory disabilities, as well as the relevant statutory services. We have a grant through the Connexions initiative to provide internet skills tuition to 20 young people, aged 13 to 19, in the seven central London boroughs. Camden, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea Youth Services in particular have indicated a lot of interest, as have the Contact a Family groups in Lambeth, Wandsworth, Southwark and the South West London.

Finally, fundraising is gaining a lot of momentum, and Chris Frederick has now joined the charity on a full time basis. Thus far fundraising is keeping up with the charity"s astonishing growth, but as ever it is always hard work.
