We promised to give some details of the University for Industry (UfI)pilot study into local government services. In all we had 18 of our students taking part, and the sites visited was very wide from searching for the right school to paying Council tax. Though it seems that Library information and re-cycling were the most popular. Clearly there were some access problems as well.

This month also saw the start of our partnership with the Peabody Trust training people in Tower Hamlets. This is a match funded scheme from the Equal funding initiative and aims to "... develop a test bed for innovative employment practice around a Community Centre in Tower
Hamlets. Showcasing a range of innovative access to employment support measures to facilitate access to employment in this acutely disadvantaged area to gain skills, qualifications and jobs."

The initial partners in the Thresholds DP are Peabody Trust, the London Development Agency, Deutsche Bank, East London Business Alliance (ELBA), Tower Hamlets partnership, Jobcentre Plus & Tower Hamlets College. The project will support local people to benefit from local employment opportunities. The immediate target groups for the project"s support will be people living in Tower Hamlets and neighbouring Hackney particularly people who are long term unemployed, parents and carers, people of Bangladeshi and other black and minority ethnic origin, young people at risk of offending). Developing and delivering employment support actions will form a key part of activity.
