A good deal of work this month went into bid writing, for the second of a series applications we have made for European Social Fund monies - this time it was the turn of Job Centre Plus, and as Anthony explained last month the
new name of the game is Partnerships. The main partner for this bid was, unsurprisingly a specialist in employment, namely Shaw Trust, who operate nationally, and help around 20,000 disabled people find jobs annually. Results from this round are expected early October.

August also saw the official Launch of Connecting U, a partnership of organisations designed to get computers into peoples homes. The event was staged at Glaziers Hall in the City of London, which was well attended, and should we hope give some impetus to the project. The way it works is that
Realise IT channel computers no longer required by local authorities, to Community Technology, who re-furbish the machines, and install them in beneficiaries homes. While U Can Do I.T. does the training and JaDE group does technical support. Because of the way this is funded, the project is
limited to Corporation of London, Westminster, Southwark and Lambeth at present, however we hope it will be mre widely available in 2005.
