Seeking New Chair of Trustees

UCanDoIT has been providing one-to-one IT training to disabled and elderly people in England, Scotland and Wales for almost 20 years. Recently, the Board has set a new strategy for the charity, focused on meeting the needs of more disabled and elderly people at this pivotal juncture where digital becomes the default way of life.

Since we were founded, our network of professional tutors has given over 51,000 lessons.  Our 10-week course focusses on the learner, their wants and needs. These are identified, along with any soft- or hard-ware needs, at our thorough assessment before the course begins.

In the past few years, more and more services, including local and central government, are digital by design and demand for our services has increased. Disabled and elderly people can face barriers to using IT which can lead to digital exclusion, exacerbating other issues they face, such as social isolation and financial hardship.

We teach people of all ages, even into their 100s. We have supported people with a range of impairments, over 90 impairments in all. Many of our learners have complex needs requiring innovative responses. The majority of our learners have visual impairments or are blind. We also specialise in working with people with Dementia.

We are seeking a new Chair to lead and join the Board to take UCanDoIT into our next decade. A new CEO has recently joined the charity and a new expansion agenda has been put in place. Ideally the new Chair will have enthusiasm for technology and the benefits it can bring to disabled and elderly people, strong leadership skills and the time to commit to this growing charity.

With an enthusiastic Board and staff team and a large demand for our service, this is an exciting time for the charity and a great opportunity to help change the lives of disabled and elderly people.
