Campaigns continued

2005

We had a meeting with Anne McGuire MP, then Minister for Disabled People which was also attended by Hazel Sheppard and Debbie Brixey. We were disappointed to learn from Anne McGuire that she did not have a budget! We also had meetings with Rt. Hon. David Blunkett MP and Andrew Turner MP (Shadow Minister for Charities).

2004

We were invited by Maria Eagle to submit a Business Development Plan with consultation with her officials. Maria EagleThis plan envisaged a pilot scheme in a single London borough, but unfortunately was rejected. We made preparations for proposing an amendment to the Charities Bill through Lord Elton of Headington and Lord Philips of Sudbury, which would enable charities to communicate with each other outside existing regulations of the Data Protection Act. We communicated with Nick Garland (Strategy Unit "Disability" Team, Cabinet Office) regarding the outcomes from their paper, “Improving Life Chances for Disabled People”

2003

We held a meeting in the House of Commons, held by Michael Portillo, attended by Maria Eagle MP (Minster for Disabled People). This meeting was attended by 120 people in Portcullis House, including a number of Members of Parliament and we showed the UCanDoIT film. We had correspondence with Mr A Bax (Senior Policy Officer, Greater London Authority), Ms Julie Nixon (Head of Communications, Learning & Skills Council London Central). We also corresponded with Ken Livingstone.
