 Shopping sites for disabled people:

There are now thousands of on-line shops on the internet. Some are better than others. We will try to list here only those that have a special focus for the disabled community, or sites that have something special to offer.

Don't forget to read our article on the safety of shopping on the internet before getting out your credit card!

Moonpig Cards at http://www.moonpig.com/
Moonpig is a company that can personalise greetings cards and posters and then print them up and mail them out on your behalf. For your money you get a 'proper' card with the recipient's name printed in the cover text.

The cost of a card is £2.99 plus postage and packaging, all posters £5.99. The cost of P & P for cards or posters is currently 30p for UK addresses, 39p for Europe and 68p for anywhere else in the world.

Disability Shop at http://www.disability-shop.com is a relatively new site that sells products for the disabled.

Disability-Shop.com was set up to provide people with care needs a place on the internet where they can find news articles and swap information with other users of the site.

Their online shop is a great resource for buying disability related products at great prices. The shop is divided up into three main departments with access to thousands of items. The site is secure, using the latest available technology.

DisabledInfo - a new web site at http://www.disabledinfo.com/web/ has just been launched which has recently been modified to provide a one-stop site for all disabled people. There will be shopping mall, plus travel and leisure sections later in the year.

Their aim is to provide information for disabled people, their families and carers, who are looking for help, advice or shopping requirements.

In the meantime you can visit the pilot site and the web master (web mistress?) welcomes all ideas and information.

Free2Give - at http://www.free2give.co.uk At this site you can help your favourite charity by shopping on-line. If you enter one of the member shops through the Free2Give portal, your chosen charity will receive a percentage of your spend, without it costing you any extra. There is a wide range of charities to choose from.

Ricability - at http://www.ricability.org.uk - an independent research organisation that provides information for people with disabilities and older people. There is a range of reports and publications available on Vacuum cleaners, Microwave ovens, Washing machines and Toasters, plus reports on aid equipment.
