Where Does The Money Go
We can not stress enough that we do not receive any money from central Government, all our income is generated by fundraising, grants and donations from a wide range of bodies. For further information please go to our Grants & Donations page.
Tutors: All our tutors work on a freelance basis; this means they get paid a set fee for each lesson allowing us to keep our costs to a minimum. We also pay the tutors travel fees, as many of them have to cover quite a distance to get to student’s homes.
Outreach: Many of our students are isolated, and therefore more difficult to reach. We have to ensure that we reach the publications, and information sources that go into peoples homes. We do this by advertising in magazines such as “Getting There” or publications aimed at specific disabilities that go out to members.
Administration: We have students all over London, many parts of southern England, Scotland, Wales, and Merseyside. Each application is processed through our head office, references checked, equipment sought if required and a relevantly trained tutor allocated. At the end of each lesson a report is sent to the office from the student’s computer to keep a record of what has been covered during the time spent.
Our administration staff deals with queries from students, tutors and organisations such as other charities, social services and members of the public. Our computer system allows us to keep track of lesson reports from any internet connected machine and we use email wherever possible.
