Only a very tiny percentage of funding we receive comes from individual donations and legacies. It would be wonderful for U Can Do I.T. if we could have regular donations even of small amounts from relatively large numbers of people as this would form the basis of secure long lasting sustainable income.
U Can Do I.T. is a difficult charity to raise money for because most people do not have direct personal experience of disability. Even when this does happen in their own families, people are more likely to give to specific charities supporting for example Multiple Sclerosis rather than a charity like U Can Do I.T. which in fact has given support to people with more than 85 different kinds of different disability.
We estimate that there are 100,000 blind, deaf and disabled people in the United Kingdom who could benefit enormously from being able to use a computer. People simply do not realise what a huge difference it makes to a blind person to be able to use a computer. For the first time in their lives, they are able to achieve an extraordinary degree of independence by "reading" their own mail (using screenreading programmes), buying things on line, communicating with friends and families. We actually have two former students who have become U Can Do I.T. tutors.
At the moment sadly U Can Do I.T. is only able to touch the edge of this problem. Last year we succeeded in training 240 people, this was a huge achievement for us but at this rate it would take us 416 years and 8 months to cover all the people in the United Kingdom who need our help. We realise that people are living longer these days, but that’s pushing it!
Somehow we have to increase the size and scope of the charity and we can only do that with your help.

Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a scheme by which you can give a sum of money to charity and the charity can reclaim from the Inland Revenue basic rate tax on your gift. That increases the value of the gift you make to the charity. For example, if you give £10 using Gift Aid that gift is worth £12.82 to the charity.
