This is what Val of Bridgend had to say about the UCanDoIT course:
“I enrolled on the UCanDoIT course on the recommendation of my social worker. I had no computer skills and was a little nervous as I am both visually and hearing impaired.
From the first day, my tutor came to the house and put me at ease, reassuring me that the course would be tailored around what I wanted to learn. My tutor also recommended which adaptive equipment would benefit my disabilities.
I can now use my laptop with a magnifying package which enables me to see everything much clearer on the screen. I have learnt how to enjoy using the computer for navigating the World Wide Web. I communicate each day through email, which has been a blessing on its own, as using the telephone could prove to be a bit of a challenge at times.
I enjoyed the UCanDoIT course so much that I convinced Gordon, my husband, who is deaf, to enrol on the same course. Now both Gordon and I can boast of being experts at emailing, with Gordon learning fresh new skills which included navigating online, using a web cam, instant messaging with friends and family and playing online games.
I’m thrilled with everything that I’ve learnt on the UCanDoIT course but I’m also delighted that I encouraged Gordon to do the course and learn all about the computer himself as we can help, support and encourage each other.”
