Jerry, from Northolt, who learnt with UCanDoIT: “I am 44 and was born in Ireland. I have been registered blind since birth, but still have a little sight left allowing me to use a magnifier on my computer. My last employment was with Royal London Society for the Blind (RLSB), where I spent 8 years working as a machine operator. In 2008 I was made redundant and I started looking for jobs and training opportunities. And then I came across UCanDoIT. I learned about UCanDoIT from a Community Union, and took the course because it provides one to one tuition. It is a huge difference between having to commute 3 times a week to a college. It also allowed me to have much needed software (ZoomText Magnifier) on my computer, which I could not possibly afford to purchase. I am benefiting now from this course, it filled some gaps that I had in my general IT knowledge. Now I am on the lookout for a job, browsing the job websites and job ads online. My disability makes life difficult for me as far as job hunting is concerned. I hope to use my newly acquired knowledge to find a job quickly, its very depressing staying at home. I've always worked and the current situation is not to my liking. The course is a blessing for disabled people; I'd recommend it to anyone who might be eligible and willing to learn.”
