Bev, 45, from Bromley who learnt with UCanDoIT:
“When I left school I studied hairdressing but didn't enjoy it. Went into Social care for 5 years, then fell pregnant and became a Mum. I now have 2 children aged 22 and 15. I am studying and hopefully will be able to get employment now I am computer literate!
I have Retinitis Pigmentosa (a gradual progressive reduction in vision.) which affects my day to day life as my sight is 10 degrees and I have tunnel vision and night blindness. I find things take longer and I don't have the confidence now to travel about on my own.
I learnt about UCanDoIT through Action for Blind. I took the course to learn how to use a computer to help me get a job and to fit into this generation where computers are essential. The Internet is great and I don't know how I did without it. It has really opened up my social circle too.
I want to learn everything!!! I now do everything online and have just completed a contestant form for a TV show with the help of my lovely tutor! The course has opened up a whole new world.”
