Alice, 82, lives in Camden and learnt with UCanDoIT:
Alice was born in Bow in East London. “Strokes have left me house bound with limited mobility and I am in pain all of the time. I am also visually impaired.
During the war I was a bus conductress (Clippie) on the Trolley Buses. For the rest of my working life I was a secretary mainly temping as I enjoyed the variety.
Skype and Email are very important to me, my son Stephen is terminally ill in New Zealand (cancer)and up until recently I could contact him on Skype (UCanDoIT gave me that opportunity). He is in the last stages now so he is too ill, but UCanDoIT gave me some extra time with him so he could see me and I could see him.
My grandson lives in Barbados he calls me on Skype and I talk to him. My tutor taught me how to send instant messages. I love music and I have learnt how to use YouTube - I made my tutor laugh when she asked me what I wanted to hear on YouTube and I said ‘Blondie Heart of Glass’ - I think she thought I was going to request Vera Lyn!. I have loved the lessons, learnt a lot but more importantly at my age how to get fun out of my computer. I am never alone while I can switch my computer on and fill my room with music or information.
I had another minor stroke in August. My tutor let me re-book in my own time and refreshed me on my recent memory lapses. Thank you to all.”
